Thiruvananthapuram: The state govt has approved the conduct of LLB entrance examinations in both Malayalam and English from the next academic year, marking a significant change in legal education admissions in Keralam. The decision follows a directive by higher education minister Roji M John to make LLB entrance examination questions available in Malayalam as well, taking into account students’ demands and the state’s mother-tongue policy. The move was initiated based on a representation submitted by Malayalam Aikya Vedi.Govt decided to introduce Malayalam after addressing technical issues related to the bilingual examination. It is considering the formation of a panel of experts with legal knowledge to ensure accuracy in translating the question paper and maintain the confidentiality of the examination. Modern software systems will also be used to carry out the examination without errors, the department said. The prospectus will specify that in case of any discrepancy or confusion in translation, the question’s English version will be treated as final. The move will be a considerable relief to Malayalam-speaking students aspiring to pursue legal education. The question paper is being made bilingual as part of efforts to make the entrance examination more student-friendly without compromising its quality, John said.
