T’puram: A 48-year-old lineman died after suffering an electric shock while carrying out repair work at a residential property in Puthur, Kollam, on Saturday.The deceased was identified as Altaf, of Peedika, Cholathara. According to police, while climbing a nearby electric post to restore the service wire, Altaf reportedly suffered a severe electric shock from a live line. He remained trapped on the post until locals alerted the authorities.Personnel from Puthur police station and fire and rescue services team from Kottarakkara rushed to the spot and brought him down from the post. Altaf was immediately shifted to a private hospital in Puthur, where doctors declared him dead.Police registered a case and completed the inquest proceedings. The body has been handed over to the family after the postmortem examination.A KSEB official said a departmental inquiry has been initiated to ascertain the circumstances that led to the accident. “The exact cause of the electrocution is yet to be determined. The inquiry will examine the sequence of events and whether all prescribed safety protocols were followed during the repair work,” the official said.Altaf is survived by his wife, Sheeja, son Mohammed Ansil, and daughter Nazriya.
