Ahmedabad: Citizens were caught unawares on Monday morning and afternoon as some parts of Ahmedabad received light showers. The rainfall was temporary, as the temperatures remained high. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast, the systems causing rain are likely to dissipate from Tuesday onwards, and there are slim chances of rainfall.A senior IMD official said that the state experienced the impact of two troughs — one from northwest Uttar Pradesh to north Gujarat across central Rajasthan, and another from south Karnataka to Marathwada.

“Thus, parts of the state, including north Gujarat, the majority of districts in Saurashtra, and parts of south Gujarat, received light showers. The rainfall was not significant,” said a senior official.Citizens experienced cloudy weather during the morning, which gave way to sunny weather again by late afternoon. At 34.2°C, the maximum temperature was 1.9 degrees higher than normal, whereas at 19.5°C, the minimum temperature was 3.9 degrees higher than normal. According to the IMD forecast, the temperatures are likely to remain in the same range on Tuesday.The forecast for Gujarat indicated a fall in both maximum and minimum temperatures by 2-3 degrees in the next 24 hours. Afterwards, the temperatures are likely to stabilize, the forecast added.Naliya recorded a minimum temperature of 14.8°C, the lowest in the state, and Mahuva recorded a maximum temperature of 36.9°C, the highest in the state, on Monday. It is notable that Feb marked significant fluctuations in the maximum and minimum temperatures. Experts indicated that it has implications for agriculture and public health.“Several citizens are experiencing viral infections and subsequent sore throat. Patients often record symptoms continuing for over a week with little respite. Those susceptible to weather change are also facing health issues,” said a city-based physician.
