Noida: Light showers over the last two days have once again forced citizens from different parts of the city to grapple with sewer overflows and intermittent power outages.RWA president of Sector 55 Satynarayan Goyal pointed out that sewer leakage has become a part of their everyday life and the rain has only made the situation worse. He said people living in high-rises can easily escape the muck, but people from the economically weaker sections who put up in one-room houses in the sector are forced to leave or live in the mess. “After multiple complaints, the sewer department charged us Rs 5,000 for repairs, but they have failed to fix the problem,” he said.A similar issue has cropped up in Sector 43 as well. A resident Yogesh K Sharma said sewage water has been overflowing near plot A-289. “It has now accumulated in a vacant plot, creating a severe sanitation issue in the sector. Apart from the foul smell, the area has become a breeding ground for mosquitoes,” he said.

Even metro commuters could not escape the mess the showers left behind. A commuter said that he had to jump over puddles to reach the Sector 52 metro station. The pot-hole-ridden road that connects Sector 63 (FNG) to Ghaziabad remained submerged in pockets. Dinesh Singh of Homes 121, who is a regular commuter on the stretch, said, “With every passing day, it becomes increasingly clear that the authority has abandoned its responsibilities toward maintaining basic civic amenities.”Meanwhile, intermittent outages occurred in several sectors across the city. RWA general secretary of Sector 51 Sanjeev Kumar said, “Even slight rain leads to electrical infrastructure breakdowns. There were several intermittent power cuts over the past two days.” The sentiment was echoed by residents from sectors 55, 82, 12 and 11.Officials from the Authority and discom said teams are on the ground, and the problems are being addressed.
