Bhubaneswar: IMD forecast on Sunday said at least 12 districts in the state might witness light rain or thunderstorm activities next two days, Monday and Tuesday. The precipitation might occur under the influence of a well-marked out low pressure area that persists over the southwest Bay of Bengal.
The districts expected to witness rainfall, thunderstorm activities or overcast sky are Balasore, Bhadrak, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Khordha, Puri, Keonjhar, Jajpur, Kalahandi, Dhenkanal and Mayurbhanj, said an IMD bulletin. Besides, lightning and gusty surface wind warning would continue in some more districts. Manorama Mohanty, scientist and head of regional IMD centre in the city, said isolated places in some districts would only witness light rain, thunderstorm activities or an overcast sky under the influence of the system.The bulletin said the low pressure area persists over the Bay of Bengal, an associated cyclonic circulation that also extends up to 5.8 km above the mean sea-level. It said the system would continue to move west-north-westwards initially before gradually recurving northeastwards over southwest Bay of Bengal in next two days. The IMD scientist said night temperature is also likely to witness a rise by two to three degrees Celsius in Odisha in two days. All such forecast came with night temperature already saw a rise trend at several places in the state.Hill station G Udayagiri at 12ºC recorded the day’s lowest temperature in the state. Phulbani followed at 12ºC. IMD bulletin said minimum temperature was appreciably above normal by about 3-5°C at a few places over the districts of interior Odisha and above normal by about 2-3°C at many places over the districts of Interior Odisha.Night temperature was also below normal by about 3°C at one or two places over the districts of north Coastal Odisha and normal at elsewhere over the districts of Odisha. Dense fog reducing visibility to 50 metre was also experienced at Kendrapara town during morning hours.
