Maximum temperatures are likely to rise by 3-4 degrees Celsius over the next week

Gurgaon: Light rain and cloudy conditions brought down night temperatures across Haryana, with the city recording below-normal minimum temperatures on Thursday, according to India Meteorological Department (IMD).Data released by Meteorological Centre Chandigarh showed that the city recorded a minimum temperature of 21 degrees Celsius on Thursday, 1 degree lower than the previous day. Gurgaon AWS recorded a minimum temperature of 20.5 degrees Celsius, while NorthCap University station logged 22.1 degrees Celsius.IMD said the average minimum temperature across Haryana fell by 1.4 degrees Celsius compared to Wednesday and remained 2.4 degrees below normal. Karnal recorded the state’s lowest minimum temperature at 19.6 degrees Celsius.IMD has issued a yellow alert for thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds of 40-50 kmph across some parts of Haryana and Chandigarh on May 14 and 15. Residents have been advised to avoid taking shelter under trees and near electric poles during lightning activity. IMD has also forecast heatwave conditions in parts of the state from May 16 to May 20.Temperatures remained high across the district on Thursday. Haryana’s average maximum temperature increased by 0.6 degrees Celsius compared with the previous day, though it remained near normal overall.Sirsa remained the hottest district with a maximum temperature of 44 degrees Celsius. Narnaul recorded 42.7 degrees Celsius, Bhiwani 42.5 degrees Celsius, Rohtak 42 degrees Celsius and Hisar 41.7 degrees Celsius. Nuh recorded a high of 41 degrees Celsius.Among NCR districts, Faridabad recorded 41.1 degrees Celsius, while Gurgaon touched around 40 degrees Celsius at multiple monitoring stations. Gurgaon AWS recorded 37.6 degrees Celsius, Gurgaon KVK station recorded 39 degrees Celsius and NorthCap University station logged 40.7 degrees Celsius.Parts of the Gurgaon district received light and scattered rainfall over the last 24 hours. According to the district rainfall report, Wazirabad recorded the highest rainfall at 4 mm between 8am on May 13 and 8am on May 14.Gurgaon tehsil, along with Kadipur and Harsaru sub-tehsils, recorded 3 mm rainfall each, while Manesar received 1 mm rainfall. Areas including Sohna, Pataudi, Farrukhnagar and Badshahpur did not receive any rain during the period.IMD data showed Gurgaon station recorded 2.5 mm rainfall during the 24-hour period ending 8.30am on Thursday, while Gurgaon AWS recorded 5.5 mm and NorthCap University station logged 4.5 mm rainfall.Officials said the weather conditions are being influenced by a western disturbance and upper-air cyclonic circulation over south Haryana and adjoining areas.The weather office said temperatures are expected to rise sharply after the brief spell of thunderstorm activity, with maximum temperatures likely to rise by 3-4 degrees Celsius over the next week.
