NEW DELHI: Several parts of Delhi-NCR received light rain late on Friday morning, even as the minimum temperature stayed 2.5 degrees Celsius above normal. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a yellow alert, predicting light showers, thunderstorms and gusty winds across several areas during the day.According to the weather office, regions including southwest, west, central, east, north and south Delhi, along with Shahdara and southeast Delhi, are likely to receive rainfall accompanied by lightning. Residents have been advised to stay updated on weather conditions.Wind speeds are expected to range between 30 and 40 kmph.Officials said the unusual weather pattern this March is due to a series of western disturbances affecting northwest India. These systems, active since March 15, are approaching at a lower altitude than usual, influencing conditions over Delhi.Because of this, some parts of the city may also see strong winds, light rain and mild dust storms during the day. However, the IMD said the current spell is not expected to significantly affect overall temperatures. The minimum temperature was recorded at 20.6 degrees Celsius on Friday morning.Meanwhile, Delhi’s Air Quality Index stood in the “moderate” category at 148 at 9am.
