Ajmer: A court in Ajmer Wednesday sentenced a 28-year-old man to life imprisonment for throwing acid upon a woman and her 12-year-old daughter at Chittorgarh railway station a year ago, an attack that caused the girl to completely lose vision in one eye and partially lose vision in the other. The court also directed compensation to the girl of Rs 2 lakh. Public prosecutor Naresh Kumar said that on April 25 last year, the woman and her daughter boarded a train from Ajmer for Chittorgarh. The next day, at Chittorgarh railway station, they went to a spot near the rail tracks for urination. Mohammad Ismail, resident of Mau district in Madhya Pradesh, approached the woman and her daughter, opened a bottle he was carrying, and poured acid upon both of them. Both victims remained hospitalised for many days, with the mother having burns all over her body. tnn
