Launches Hockey Tournament to empower youth & honour martyrs

Jammu, Feb 9: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Monday directed the Jammu and Kashmir Police to strike decisively against terrorism and work in close collaboration with all sections of society to completely dismantle terror networks.

Addressing the inaugural ceremony of the J&K Police Martyrs Memorial Hockey Tournament at KK Hakku Hockey Stadium, Jammu, the Lieutenant Governor said the unbreakable resolve of the J&K Police sends a powerful message to the nation that adversity cannot weaken their spirit.

“J&K Police’s message to the nation is clear—adversity will not crack our spirit. We will cross every barrier to achieve new milestones as we move forward,” the Lieutenant Governor said.

The tournament, being revived after a gap of over ten years, will feature 14 teams from across the region.

Paying tribute to police martyrs, the Lieutenant Governor said the brave personnel who sacrificed their present for the nation’s future wore the uniform as a sacred duty and valued national honour above life.

“Real tributes to bravehearts do not fade. They pulse with life and flow through the veins of future generations,” he observed.

He said the martyrs of the J&K Police embodied the highest ideals of duty and self-sacrifice, and called upon society to pass these values on to the youth to build strong character.

Commending the J&K Police for empowering youth through the Civic Action Programme, the Lieutenant Governor said it was not merely a government initiative but a mindset that strengthens peace through trust and community participation.

“Security is reinforced through relationships and community involvement. Lasting peace flows from mutual trust,” he added.

The Lieutenant Governor also urged collective action against drug abuse, reiterating the administration’s resolve to make Jammu and Kashmir drug-free. “We reaffirm our vow for a drug-free J&K, and the J&K Police Martyrs Memorial Hockey Tournament reflects that commitment,” he said.

He further reaffirmed the commitment of the UT Administration and the J&K Police to support youth by creating opportunities, providing platforms for talent, and channelising young energy in the right direction.

Senior officials present on the occasion included Nalin Prabhat, DGP J&K; S.J.M. Gillani, Special DG (Coordination); Abdul Ghani Mir, Commandant General, Home Guards, Civil Defence & SDRF; Anand Jain, ADGP Armed Police, along with senior police and civil administration officers, members of hockey associations, and eminent sports personalities.
