Leh, Oct 15: Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, VK Saxena, on Thursday described the inauguration of five major development projects by Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a historic moment for the region, saying the initiatives would mark a significant milestone in Ladakh’s development and give a major boost to tourism.
Speaking to reporters after attending the inauguration ceremony virtually, the LG said the day would be remembered in the history of Ladakh in golden words.
The five projects include the Leh Airport terminal, the Nimu-Padam-Darcha road, the Him Sarovar project, 40 ponds under the Amrit Sarovar initiative, and the country’s first petroglyph park.
Saxena said these projects were of immense importance and would play a crucial role in strengthening infrastructure, promoting tourism and accelerating the overall development of Ladakh.
He said Ladakh had witnessed significant progress since 2019, adding that the region was moving forward across various sectors, while the problems and long-pending demands of its people were being addressed.
“The people of Ladakh have faith and trust in the Prime Minister. They are witnessing the development they had aspired for over generations,” the LG said.
Expressing confidence in Ladakh’s future, Saxena said more development initiatives would be undertaken to ensure greater benefits for the region and its people.
He also thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his time and commitment to Ladakh’s development.
The LG particularly appreciated the people of Zanskar for attending the programme despite heavy snowfall. He said that even after the Deputy Commissioner of Zanskar advised people to leave the venue due to the adverse weather, many residents chose to stay to listen to the Prime Minister’s address.
Saxena said people began arriving at the venues as early as 9 am, with gatherings of approximately 1,500 to 3,000 people at individual locations.
He said the participation of residents despite challenging weather conditions reflected their enthusiasm and interest in the Prime Minister’s vision for the development of Ladakh.
