New Delhi: Lieutenant governor TS Sandhu on Friday called for improvement across multiple civic sectors during a review meeting with Municipal Corporation of Delhi officials, stressing strict enforcement, time-bound action and better service delivery.“Regular monitoring and firm enforcement are essential to ensure accountability at all levels,” Sandhu said, reiterating the administration’s zero tolerance for delays and assuring full support in resolving operational challenges to build a cleaner and more responsive city.The LG directed officials to take firm action against encroachments in markets and on footpaths, and ensure recovery of penalties to act as a deterrent. He also stressed effective implementation of Solid Waste Management Rules, including proper installation and maintenance of dustbins in markets and other public spaces.Highlighting the need to ease congestion in major commercial hubs, Sandhu asked officials to augment parking infrastructure to improve accessibility. He also called for a structured approach to managing stray animals, including the setting up of dog shelter homes in each zone.The LG reviewed the status of key initiatives, ongoing projects and priority areas requiring focused intervention at the meeting, which was attended by MCD commissioner Sanjeev Khirwar.“As the principal civic body, MCD plays a critical role in shaping the quality of life in the national capital. Its functioning must reflect efficiency, accountability and a citizen-first approach,” Sandhu said, adding that robust civic infrastructure, sanitation and responsive urban services were central to the vision of Viksit Delhi, aligned with the Prime Minister’s vision of Viksit Bharat.Sandhu also stressed expediting legacy waste remediation and scaling up the deployment of mechanised road-sweeping machines to improve sanitation outcomes. He directed officials to expand the zero-waste colony campaign across all zones, modernise crematoria, and ensure timely maintenance of roads and streetlights to provide safe and seamless mobility.Emphasising public outreach, the LG said prompt redressal of grievances, including those received through the LG Listening Post, must remain a priority.He also reviewed preparedness under the PM-UDAY scheme for regularisation of unauthorised colonies and asked officials to proactively facilitate eligible beneficiaries. MCD officials, he said, must remain aligned with ground realities and responsive to public feedback to bridge service delivery gaps.
