New Delhi: Delhi lieutenant governor (LG) Taranjit Singh Sandhu and chief minister Rekha Gupta on Monday reviewed the city’s preparedness for the upcoming summer and monsoon seasons, with a focus on energy security, water supply and disaster management.The discussions covered close monitoring of LPG supply chains to ensure timely availability, expansion of piped natural gas (PNG) infrastructure to address shortages and curb black marketing, heatwave preparedness, and measures to ensure adequate drinking water supply. Monsoon readiness was also taken up, with emphasis on advance planning and timely desilting of drains to prevent urban flooding.
“Met with LG Taranjit Singh Sandhu and shared detailed information on Delhi govt’s preparations for the upcoming summer. There was an in-depth discussion on water supply, electricity management, health services and disaster management. Our goal is to ensure that Delhi residents face no inconvenience during the summer season,” the CM said in a post.The meeting was held at Lok Niwas on Monday afternoon.In a separate post on X, the LG’s office said the importance of seamless coordination among Delhi govt departments, urban local bodies (ULBs), central agencies and neighbouring states was strongly emphasised.“They held detailed discussions on key issues concerning Delhi’s development and public welfare, aligned with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for Viksit Bharat and Viksit Delhi,” the post said. Key focus areas included energy security, summer action plans to tackle heatwaves and drinking water shortages, and monsoon preparedness through advance planning and timely desilting of drains.Meanwhile, the LG also held a separate meeting with chief secretary Rajeev Verma, Delhi police commissioner Satish Golcha and other senior officers to review issues related to governance, crime, law and order coordination, and public service delivery.Amid recent reports of LPG shortages, Delhi govt has been pushing for faster expansion of the PNG network. Delhi currently has the capacity for around 18 lakh PNG connections, of which about 14 lakh have already been installed. Officials have been directed to roll out the remaining connections in mission mode. At present, around 10,000 new PNG connections are being added every month, a figure that can be scaled up to 25,000 if required, an official said.
