Srinagar, June 5: A 45-year-old migrant labourer from Uttar Pradesh was killed in a leopard attack in the Beerwah area of Budgam district on Friday, officials said.

The victim, identified as Harish Chander, son of Kashi and a resident of Uttar Pradesh, was employed at a brick kiln in Baput, Beerwah, owned by Mohd Altaf Thoker.

According to police, the labourer was attacked by a leopard near the brick kiln. His body was later discovered a short distance away from the worksite.

Upon receiving information about the incident, police personnel reached the scene and took custody of the body.

The deceased was subsequently shifted to a hospital for medico-legal procedures.

Police have initiated proceedings into the incident, while wildlife officials are expected to visit the area to assess the situation and implement necessary safety measures to prevent further attacks.
