Leaders from Left parties on Monday (October 26, 2026) congratulated Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva on his historic fourth presidential win, with CPI(M) General Secretary M.A. Baby saying it offers hope to people’s movements fighting for workers’ rights.

Mr. Lula da Silva, a vocal critic of U.S. President Donald Trump, was re-elected on Sunday (October 25, 2026) in a result that offers relief to critics of expanding U.S. influence in Latin America. With 100% of the votes counted, Brazil’s electoral court announced that the soon-to-be 81-year-old Mr. Lula had secured an unassailable lead of nearly 4.4 million votes over his opponent Flávio Bolsonaro.

In a post on X, Mr. Baby congratulated Mr. Lula and the people of Brazil on the “historic fourth presidential term”.

“Salute to the Workers’ Party, PCdoB and other progressive and democratic forces who valiantly fought to make this victory possible,” the CPI(M) leader said.

Referring to the ongoing protests in India against Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls, which has led to the removal of over 13 crore voters from the list, Mr. Baby said Mr. Lula’s victory would “reinvigorate” the youth in India.

“Your remarkable campaign showed the world that the politics of hatred and division can be defeated when the people stand united. This victory offers hope to people’s movements everywhere fighting for workers’ rights, social justice and public welfare,” he said.

“The youth who took to the streets to defend democracy will reinvigorate our own youth who are fighting the same battle here,” he added.

Mr. Baby said the people had sent a clear message: “Brazil is no one’s backyard!”

CPI (ML) Liberation General Secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya also congratulated the people of Brazil for defeating the “U.S.-backed far-right”.

“Congratulations, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, on being reelected President of Brazil. Well done, Brazil, for defeating the US-backed far-right!,” he said in a post on X.

Mr. Bhattacharya also referred to Serbia, where long-serving strongman leader Aleksandar Vučić conceded defeat on Sunday (October 25, 2026) in an election that pitted him and his right-wing party against a diverse student-led opposition movement that spent two years protesting his government.

“Two elections, two inspiring outcomes! In Brazil, Lula has won a fourth term defeating Bolsonaro. In Serbia, the student movement has now ended the increasingly authoritarian reign of Aleksandar Vučić,” Mr. Bhattacharya said.

Mr. Vučić, who had been endorsed by Russian President Vladimir Putin and accused the student movement of being a foreign-backed attempt to unseat him, had wielded near-absolute power in the Balkan country for 14 years.

He was seeking to become Serbia’s Prime Minister after serving nearly two full terms as President. He resigned from the presidency last month to lead the campaign.
