Coimbatore: Members of Left-affiliated student and youth organisations staged a protest near the railway station in Coimbatore on Tuesday, demanding the cancellation of the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) and exemption for Tamil Nadu from the examination.The demonstration was organised as part of a statewide protest. Protesters alleged that the examination continued to shatter the medical education aspirations of students and urged the Union government to withdraw the test.The protest was led by All India Youth Federation district president Abhiman. Indian Students’ Association district president Pavel, Democratic Youth Federation of India district president Raja and other office-bearers participated in the agitation.Raising slogans against NEET and the National Testing Agency (NTA), the protesters demanded strict action against those involved in alleged irregularities in the examination process. They also held the Union government responsible for the reported lapses and called for a permanent exemption for Tamil Nadu from NEET.The protesters carried placards condemning NEET and insisted that medical admissions should be conducted in the state based on Class 12 marks.
