Hyderabad: BJP national president Nitin Nabin on Monday dubbed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi a “part-time politician” and urged BJP workers to lay the groundwork for a BJP “double-engine” govt in Telangana in 2028, saying the party’s booth-level cadre would determine the outcome of the next assembly election.Addressing a booth presidents’ convention in Warangal, he said some leaders appeared before the people only during elections, while BJP workers remained among the public throughout the year. “Rahul Gandhi is a part-time politician. A BJP karyakarta is a full-time public servant,” he said, asking party workers to strengthen their connect with people at the grassroots.Calling booth committees the backbone of the BJP’s organisational strength, Nabin asked every worker to ensure the lotus bloomed in every polling booth by enrolling new voters, taking central welfare schemes to every household, and expanding the party’s social base. He said the BJP’s mission was not merely to capture power but to earn people’s trust through service.Seeking to sharpen the party’s Telangana pitch, Nabin said the BJP shared a historic relationship with the state that went beyond electoral politics. Rejecting claims that the BJP was a new force in Telangana, he said one of the party’s first two Lok Sabha victories after its formation in 1980 had come from the state, reflecting a long-standing association with its people. He also recalled the BJP’s support for Telangana statehood, crediting late Union minister Sushma Swaraj for forcefully backing the state’s formation in Parliament. However, he alleged that the aspirations behind Telangana’s creation had remained unfulfilled because of “family rule” and corruption under successive BRS and Congress govts.Stepping up his attack on the Congress govt, Nabin alleged that despite coming to power on multiple promises in 2023, it had focused more on political management than governance. He also accused the previous BRS regime of putting family interests ahead of public welfare and claimed that the BJP was now the only credible alternative in the state.Highlighting the Narendra Modi-led Centre’s welfare initiatives, Nabin cited PM Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana, Ayushman Bharat, PM SVANidhi and Jan Dhan Yojana as examples of schemes that had directly benefited the poor through transparent delivery. He said the Centre remained committed to the welfare of farmers, youth, women and weaker sections while working towards the goal of a “Viksit Bharat” by 2047. Urging party workers to function as full-time public servants, Nabin asked them to intensify preparations at the booth level, saying the BJP’s Telangana victory would be built one booth at a time.
