After a gruelling two-and-a-half-hour operation involving a heavy-duty crane, the car was finally pulled to the surface.

VILLUPURAM: Four people from Chennai, including a Madras high court lawyer and a kabbadi player, died after their car plunged into a 50-foot-deep roadside farm well near Gingee in Villupuram district on Tuesday morning. The victims, identified as S Vinoth, 38, a Madras high court lawyer, K Sekar, 27, a kabbadi player, A Jayamurugan, 42, a real estate businessman, and M Raja, 45, a private company driver, were returning to Chennai after performing girivalam at Tiruvannamalai temple.As the car approached Alampoondi, Raja, who was driving the car, lost control of the vehicle due to drowsiness. The car veered off the road and plunged into a roadside well filled with water.Upon hearing the news, a police team from Sathyamanagalam and a team of fire and rescue services personnel from Gingee rushed to the spot. Rescue efforts were hampered as the car was submerged in the 50-foot-deep well. Divers initially struggled to reach the victims trapped inside the mangled vehicle. After a gruelling two-and-a-half-hour operation involving a heavy-duty crane, the car was finally pulled to the surface.Rescuers found the bodies of Vinoth, Sekhar, and Raja inside the car, while Jayamurugan’s body was later recovered from the well after an intensive search. All the four bodies were sent for postmortem.
