Tragedy struck at Gopal Narayan Singh University in Rohtas, where a 22-year-old law student was discovered deceased in her hostel room, reportedly by suicide. Having missed several classes, her lifeless body was found hanging. A suicide note was located, hinting at emotional turmoil possibly linked to a recent arranged engagement.

Sasaram: A fifth-semester law student at Gopal Narayan Singh University (GNSU) allegedly died by suicide in her hostel room on Thursday in Jamuhar under the Dehri Mufassil police station area in Rohtas district.The deceased, Priyanka Kumar (22), a resident of neighbouring Kaimur district, had skipped her classes on Thursday morning citing health issues.The incident came to light during the lunch hour when her roommates returned to the hostel. Finding the door locked from the inside and receiving no response to repeated knocks, they alerted the university authorities.The door was later broken open and the student was found hanging from a ceiling fan in the room.She was immediately taken to a hospital on the campus, where doctors declared her dead.Police later recovered a suicide note from the room.According to preliminary information and local sources, the student had been under emotional distress following her engagement to a businessman from Sasaram last week. Sources indicated that the engagement may have been arranged against her will.A police team and forensic experts reached the hostel and began examining the scene as part of the investigation.“The family has been informed and has arrived at the site,” a police officer said.Rohtas SP Roshan Kumar said further details would emerge after the investigation progresses.“A formal update will be provided once we have recorded statements from family members and associates, and completed our technical investigation,” he said.
