Udupi: The last rites of businessman and former gram panchayat president David D’Souza were held at Pilar Church on Sunday in the presence of Congress functionaries, friends and well-wishers.D’Souza’s mortal remains was brought to Rajiv Bhavan in Kaup, where Congress fucntionaries and workers paid their last respects. The body was later taken in a procession via Katapady and Shirva to the Mudarangadi Gram Panchayat office, Pilar Kunjigudde Colony and his residence.Shops and commercial establishments remained closed in the Mudarangadi area, while autorickshaw and tempo services were suspended on Sunday as a mark of respect. People from several places gathered at Pilar Church to pay their final respects.MLC Ivan D’Souza, former minister Vinay Kumar Sorake, members of D’Souza’s family and several Congress functionaries attended the funeral.D’Souza, who operated Prince Enterprises from an office in the St Xavier’s Church complex at Mudarangadi, was shot dead around 3.45pm on Friday. Police have arrested three people for their alleged involvement in the murder.
