Bettiah: The process of acquiring land for the proposed expansion of Valmikinagar airport along the India-Nepal border in West Champaran has gathered momentum with the administration obtaining consent from 15 of the 18 raiyats identified for the project.A special camp, being organised from July 11 to July 13 under the state govt’s land purchase policy, aims to secure consent from the remaining landowners for the construction of a new terminal building and related infrastructure.The proposed terminal and expansion work are planned on the southern side of the existing airport. According to officials, efforts are under way to complete the acquisition process quickly so that construction can begin without delay.Bagaha SDM Chandani Kumari said the camp had been set up to facilitate the process and address concerns raised by affected landowners. “So far, consent has been secured from 15 of the 18 raiyats identified for the project. The remaining three landowners are also expected to give their consent within the stipulated period,” she said.Farmers and landowners are being asked to fill out consent forms for either the sale or lease of their land under the state govt’s policy. The forms contain details such as personal information, khata and khesra numbers, land area and boundary specifications.The documents state that the landowners agree to transfer their land on the basis of compensation or lease amounts fixed by the govt. They must also declare that the land is free from legal disputes and that registration will be carried out in accordance with departmental rules.The acquisition process is being supervised by officials, including West Champaran additional district land acquisition officer, Bagaha SDM Chandani Kumari and Bagaha-2 circle officer Wasim Akram.The project also includes a 20-metre-wide approach road linking the proposed terminal. Residents believe the airport expansion will improve connectivity and give a boost to tourism, trade and employment in Valmikinagar and nearby areas.
