Jaisalmer worker discovered dead by hanging at the Municipal Council’s MRF center; buried the same night.

Jaisalmer: Police have launched an investigation after the body of a labourer, who was allegedly found hanging at the Municipal Council’s Material Recovery Facility (MRF) Centre in Jaisalmer, was buried by his wife and fellow workers without informing authorities. The incident came to light Sunday after the deceased’s relatives alerted police. The body was exhumed Monday evening following administrative approval, and a postmortem by a medical board will be conducted Tuesday.Kotwali station house officer Surjaram Jakhar said Ratannath (40), a native of Bhilwara, worked at the MRF Centre segregating dry waste. He had been living with his wife and 12-year-old son in a makeshift hut near the dumping yard for the past six months. Police said he was allegedly under the influence of alcohol Saturday evening when he was found hanging inside a tin shed.Preliminary investigation revealed that Ratannath’s wife informed fellow labourers about the death, following which they buried the body in a vacant plot opposite the MRF Centre without notifying police.“The burial has raised suspicion. Whether it was a suicide or a murder will be known only after the postmortem report,” Jakhar said.Police said Ratannath was employed at the MRF Centre through his relative, Ladhunath, who also worked there. Since the incident, Ladhunath and his family have been missing. Police are searching for him and probing his role in the unauthorised burial.
