Kuwait’s Ministry of Social Affairs has dissolved six civil associations following a review of their compliance with laws and regulations governing public benefit organisations, as authorities step up oversight of the sector’s financial and administrative practices.
The decisions were issued by Minister of Social Affairs, Family and Childhood Affairs Dr Amthal Al-Huwailah as part of the ministry’s ongoing evaluation of civil society organisations to ensure they operate in accordance with the country’s legal and governance requirements.
As part of the action, the ministry has suspended the boards of directors and employees of the affected associations from managing or disposing of the organisations’ funds, assets and official documents. The Ministry of Social Affairs will supervise the liquidation of the associations in line with applicable legislation.
The ministry said the move forms part of broader efforts to strengthen governance, accountability and regulatory compliance across Kuwait’s civil society sector.
It added that inspections and evaluations of public benefit associations would continue to ensure adherence to relevant laws, executive regulations and internal bylaws governing their operations.
The latest enforcement action reflects Kuwait’s continued focus on improving transparency and strengthening oversight of civil associations, particularly with regard to their financial management and administrative governance.
The ministry did not disclose the names of the six associations or specify the compliance breaches that resulted in their dissolution.
