Kurukshetra: The 290th meeting of the executive council (EC) of Kurukshetra University (KU), chaired by vice-chancellor Prof Som Nath Sachdeva, has approved a budget of about Rs 746.62 crore for the financial year 2026–27. The meeting deliberated on 14 key agendas pertaining to the university’s academic, administrative, and financial affairs.The council also approved the university’s annual report–2025. The minutes of the EC meeting held on Dec 30, 2025, were confirmed, with members expressing satisfaction over the implementation of decisions taken earlier.

The council considered and approved the recommendations of the Finance Committee meeting held on Feb 10. These included the budget estimates for 2026–27, revised estimates for 2025–26, actual expenditure for 2024–25, re-appropriation orders, and the audited balance sheet for 2024–25. Annual audit reports for years 2021–22 and 2022–23 were also placed before the council. Observations raised by the director, local audit, Haryana, were discussed, and necessary directions were issued.Social media policyA key policy issue discussed was the formulation of a Social Media Policy and guidelines for students, employees and other social media users associated with the university. The council gave its in-principle approval for developing a comprehensive framework to ensure institutional discipline and dignity.The council approved the extension of re-employment of retired V N Atri as director, International Center for Indo-Pacific Studies (ICIPS), for a further period of six months. Approval was also granted to the recommendations of the Standing Committee regarding the empanelment of private doctors and specialists for the year 2025–26, along with the revision of consultation charges.In another important decision, the council approved the renaming of Amarnath Bhagat Jairam Kanya Mahavidyalaya, Serdha (Kaithal), as Amarnath Bhagat Jairam govt Kanya Mahavidyalaya, Serdha (Kaithal).The council also deliberated on guidelines to incentivise faculty members for quality research and effective teaching, and appropriate decisions were taken.
