Srinagar, Mar 1: Families from north Kashmir’s Kupwara district have appealed to the Government of India to evacuate students stranded in Iran as tensions escalate in the Middle East.
Parents say they have lost contact with their children since Saturday evening and fear for their safety amid reports of explosions and rising instability in the region.
Several students from Kupwara are pursuing MBBS degrees in different cities across Iran. According to their families, communication has become difficult over the past day.
Farooq Ahmad, a resident of Kupwara, said he last spoke to his daughter on Sunday night. Since then, her phone has remained unreachable.
“I do not know where she is or how she is,” he said. “After the escalation in the Middle East, I am extremely worried. We keep calling, but there is no response.”
Another parent, Bashir Ahmad, shared similar concerns. His daughter informed the family during their last conversation that they could hear explosions in the distance. She told them that students were staying inside a building and avoiding movement outside due to safety concerns.
“They are worried there, and we are worried here in the Kashmir Valley,” he said, adding that the uncertainty has left families anxious and sleepless.
Parents from the border district said the situation has caused panic among relatives, who are closely following news updates but receiving little direct information from their children.
They urged the government to take immediate and concrete steps to ensure the safe evacuation of all stranded students from Iran.
The families said swift action is needed to bring their children back home safely, stressing that their only concern at this moment is the well-being and security of their sons and daughters.
