T’puram: Kerala University syndicate on Thursday annulled recommendations of its former syndicate standing committee on granting affiliation to new colleges and courses.The review will be completed within the stipulated time, and recommendations will be forwarded to govt. The syndicate decided to re-examine the matter following allegations of financial misconduct by certain CPM syndicate members in recommending new courses and colleges, UDF members in the syndicate said.The syndicate has also decided to renovate the Senate Hall and stadium, and to build a sports complex— including a gymnasium— in the university department adjacent to the university stadium. It also decided to make contract-based appointments to the posts of director of students’ services, director of physical education, director of publications, and editor of Malayalam lexicon.A syndicate subcommittee was appointed to study functioning of various study centres under the university and submit a report. It was decided to hold a convocation to honour those who earned doctorates last year and those who achieved top results in PG and UG examinations. The convocation held for awarding degrees had been discontinued for half a century.The govt will be urged to release the lease amount payable under the contract for Greenfield Stadium at Kariavattom. The varsity would also take steps to evict those who run commerical establishment in the stadium complex in violation of lease agreement.These decisions were taken at the first syndicate meeting held after constituting standing committees that included syndicate members nominated by UDF govt. Since the syndicate did not meet for the past four months, decisions are pending on around 1,100 different matters.
