Srinagar Sept 14: The Department of Hindi, University of Kashmir (KU), celebrated Hindi Diwas at the Main Campus.
It aimed to highlight the cultural, academic and administrative significance of Hindi and encourage greater interest in the language among students.
Presiding over the event, Vice-Chancellor, KU, Prof. Nilofer Khan highlighted the promising prospects for students pursuing Hindi and stressed on the importance of organising national and international seminars to enhance the language’s academic stature and global reach.
“Hindi has a rich literary and cultural heritage and offers diverse opportunities for students. We should create greater academic exposure through national and international seminars and scholarly engagements to further enhance the reach and relevance of the language,” she said.
Registrar, KU, Prof. Naseer Iqbal, commended the Department for its academic progress and emphasised the need to introduce new and contemporary courses to attract younger generations, describing academic diversification as the need of the hour.
Delivering the keynote address, Dr. Madhu Khandelwal spoke on the cultural and administrative significance of Hindi and clarified the distinction between Rajbhasha (Official Language) and Rashtrabhasha (National Language).
Special Guest and Professor of Practice, KU, Prof. Satish Vimal, highlighted the significance of Hindi Diwas and the contribution of Kashmiris towards the promotion and enrichment of Hindi despite the region being non-Hindi-speaking.
Head, Department of Hindi, KU, Prof. Rubi Zutshi, delivered the welcome address and highlighted the historical significance of Hindi Diwas.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from University dignitaries, Heads of Departments, faculty members, research scholars and students.
The proceedings were conducted by Dr. Mudassir Ahmad Bhat, while Dr. Shazia Bashir presented the vote of thanks.
