Gorakhpur: Prof KP Singh, former vice-chancellor of Rohilkhand University, Bareilly, has been appointed the new VC of Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gorakhpur University (DDU-GU), bringing an end to speculation over an extension for incumbent VC Prof Poonam Tandon.Uttar Pradesh governor and chancellor of state universities Anandiben Patel appointed Prof Singh under Section 12(1) of the Uttar Pradesh State Universities Act, 1973. His appointment will be effective for three years from the date he assumes charge.Prof Singh is currently serving as a professor at Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar, Uttarakhand. He had earlier served as the vice-chancellor of Rohilkhand University in Bareilly.Prof Tandon’s three-year tenure as DDU-GU vice-chancellor ended on September 3. With her term coming to an end, speculation had been rife over the possibility of her receiving an extension.The appointment of Prof Singh was made by the governor in exercise of powers vested in her under Section 12(1) of the Uttar Pradesh State Universities Act, 1973.
