Kolkata: A Kolkata Police constable, Ananta Kumar Ray, was allegedly attacked in Bhangar on Monday after he tried to stop illegal unloading of sand on a public road in Padmapukur. Cops said a sand-laden vehicle was blocking the road while unloading. When Ray asked the workers to move it, an argument started and a group of people allegedly beat him up. Other cops rescued him but his uniform had been torn and he had visible injuries, including swelling on his face. A video claiming to show the assault is being shared on social media, but its authenticity has not been verified.No arrest had been made till reports last came in.
