Srinagar, August 29: Technocrat and social activist Sanjay Sapru has written an open letter to President Droupadi Murmu, urging her intervention over what he described as recent threat letters issued to members of the Kashmiri Pandit community serving and living in Kashmir Valley.
In the letter dated August 29, Sapru said the alleged threats had caused “deep anguish and grave concern” among community members, arguing that such communications should not be taken lightly.
Drawing parallels with the situation in 1990, Sapru said the recent threats were a “chilling reminder” of the period when Kashmiri Pandits faced threats, killings and warnings that were followed by a large-scale exodus from the Valley.
Referring to the killings of Kashmiri Pandit employees and other members of the community in recent years, including Rahul Bhat, Rajni Bala and Sanjay Sharma, he said the incidents had reinforced concerns over the safety of community members living and working in Kashmir.
Sapru also highlighted the concerns of Kashmiri Pandit employees who returned to the Valley under the Prime Minister’s employment package, saying they continued to live under fear for their security.
In his appeal, Sapru urged the President to direct the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Jammu and Kashmir administration to treat the alleged threat letters as a serious security concern and ensure a time-bound investigation to identify those responsible.
He further sought foolproof security for Kashmiri Pandit employees and residents in the Valley and called for measures to ensure that members of the community can live in Kashmir with dignity, security and without fear.
“We only want to live peacefully in the land of our ancestors,” Sapru said in the letter, expressing hope that the community’s concerns would receive due attention from the authorities.
The letter was issued from the office of Sanjay Sapru, who signed it as a technocrat and social activist on behalf of the Kashmiri Pandit community.
