Surat: A police sub-inspector attached to Kosamba police station was suspended on Monday for alleged negligence linked to the Feb 26 attack on police personnel at Hathoda village.Sub-inspector A D Dhadhal was placed under suspension after an internal inquiry concluded that he had failed to properly discharge his duties in connection with the incident. Dhadhal had been assigned patrol duty on the night of the attack and had updated his location to the control room, police sources said. However, during the inquiry, officers on field duty did not confirm his presence at the spot.The attack occurred in the early hours of Feb 26 after Kosamba police received specific information about alleged cow slaughter activity in an isolated field on the outskirts of Hathoda village. A team of six officers, accompanied by an informer, reached the location to verify the input.Police said a few persons initially arrived on a motorcycle and began arguing with the officers in an apparent attempt to obstruct the search. They later summoned more people, and a mob of over 50 locals allegedly armed with sticks, pipes and stones attacked the police team and the informer, who is said to be a gau rakshak.Following the incident, police conducted a combing operation in the village and arrested 22 persons the next morning.In related administrative action, Kosamba police inspector D L Khachar was transferred to the leave reserve, while police inspector R H Maru from Kamrej was posted to Kosamba to take charge.
