Koraput: As Odisha pitches its economic prowess and investment potential on global platforms, one of its most celebrated homegrown brands found a place in the international spotlight, with Koraput Coffee being showcased at the BRICS India 2026 Summit. The recognition of the tribal-grown coffe has been described by CM Mohan Charan Majhi and his ministers as a proud moment that reflects Odisha’s rich heritage, hard work and growing global identity.Koraput Coffee has been included in a special kit being distributed to delegates attending the two-day summit at Bharat Mandapam on September 12 and 13. The kit showcases India’s regional diversity and features traditional products from different states, including Bihar’s sattu and makhana and handicrafts from Gujarat.The recognition has drawn appreciation from Odisha chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi, who highlighted the achievement in a post on X.“Over the past few days, I have been speaking about #Odisha on global platforms, inviting the world to see the opportunities, strength and potential of our State. Today, it is especially heartening to see Koraput Coffee telling another side of Odisha’s story at the BRICS India 2026 Summit,” Majhi said.Describing the development as a reflection of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Vocal for Local’ vision, Majhi said it was a moment of immense pride to see the hard work of the people and the richness of Odisha’s land being recognised beyond the state.Koraput collector Manoj Satyawan Mahajan said the international exposure would strengthen the identity of Koraput Coffee and benefit the tribal farmers involved in its cultivation.“Koraput Coffee is not just a product; it represents the hard work of our tribal farmers, the unique agro-climatic conditions of Koraput and the rich natural heritage of the district. Its presence at the BRICS Summit is a matter of immense pride for Koraput and Odisha,” Mahajan said.He said the global platform would create greater awareness about the quality and uniqueness of Koraput Coffee while opening up new opportunities for farmers and strengthening the local economy.Koraput Coffee is a 100% Arabica, shade-grown coffee cultivated by tribal farmers in several parts of the district, including Laxmipur, Kashipur, Dasmantpur, Nandapur, Lamtaput, Koraput and Pottangi. The district’s elevation, cool climate and rainfall provide favourable conditions for coffee cultivation.More than 1,500 packets of the Tiger Blend were sent to New Delhi by the Tribal Development Co-operative Corporation of Odisha Ltd (TDCCOL) following a request from the Centre.“The inclusion of Koraput Coffee at the BRICS Summit is expected to further enhance its visibility as a speciality coffee from Odisha and provide a wider market for the product and its tribal growers,” said Sujoy Pradhan, a coffee grower of Koraput.
