Nagpur: After months of traffic congestion on the busy Koradi Road, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is expected to complete the construction of the 1km Koradi Naka flyover by November. However, the proposed arm of the flyover over the Bokhara railway level crossing is yet to take off, despite repeated communication and reminders from NHAI to Railways. The four-lane flyover work, which commenced in mid-2025, is being carried out at a cost of around Rs45 crore. It is aimed at easing congestion and improving road safety at Koradi Naka Square, which had earlier been identified as an accident-prone spot.According to an NHAI official, most of the work on the main flyover has been completed, and it is expected to be opened to traffic by November. “However, the work on the RoB arm has not yet started,” the official said. The delay in the proposed railway overbridge (RoB) arm has become a concern as the structure is intended to provide a seamless connection across the existing Bokhara level crossing. NHAI officials said Union minister Nitin Gadkari had held a meeting in December last year and directed officials of the railways and NHAI to work out a plan for the additional arm.According to the NHAI official, both Railways and NHAI were expected to contribute funds towards the RoB. However, Railways has not yet communicated with NHAI regarding the execution of the project, despite their design having been approved in May.The NHAI officer said that the issue was also discussed at a meeting chaired by revenue minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule in June. Railway officials were asked to initiate the work at the earliest, but there has been no progress since then.NHAI had initially planned to execute the main flyover and the RoB arm simultaneously. However, with the railway-related work getting delayed, the authority decided to proceed with the flyover independently. The incomplete connectivity continues to cause problems for motorists using Koradi Road, with bumper-to-bumper traffic being witnessed particularly during peak hours. Once the flyover is opened, traffic movement at Koradi Naka is expected to improve, but the proposed RoB arm will be crucial for providing uninterrupted connectivity across the railway crossing.Meanwhile, shifting of an overhead high-tension electricity line has also affected the flyover work. NHAI officials said arrangements have already been made for shifting the cables. However, residents have questioned why the utility-related issue was not resolved during the planning stage. The delays related to the RoB and utility shifting have raised concerns over coordination between agencies involved in the project, even as NHAI aims to complete and open the main flyover by November.
