Margao: Konkan Railway Corporation Limited (KRCL) ramped up enforcement against unauthorised travel, conducting over 1,000 special ticket-checking drives in Jan alone. This was part of its ongoing campaign to ensure legitimate passengers enjoy safe and comfortable journeys.KRCL detected 44,736 cases of ticketless and irregular travel during Jan, collecting over Rs 2.5 crore in fares and penalties from offenders. The 1,000-odd special drives last month were conducted in coordination with Railway Protection Force personnel across trains and stations throughout the Konkan Railway network.Since launching the initiative, KRCL carried out 9,495 special checking drives cumulatively through Jan 2026, identifying over 4.13 lakh cases of unauthorised travel and recovering nearly Rs 23 crore in total dues and penalties.“The intensified enforcement reflects KRCL’s commitment to protecting revenue while ensuring genuine ticket-holders are not inconvenienced by overcrowding from fare evaders. The drives target both onboard trains and station premises across the entire network,” a Konkan Railway spokesperson said.KRCL announced that Feb 26 will see particularly intensive checking operations throughout its route, urging all passengers to carry valid tickets to avoid penalties and disruption.
