Hyderabad: Thousands of devotees visiting the Komuravelli Sri Mallikarjuna Swamy temple will soon have direct and affordable rail connectivity, with passenger trains between Secunderabad and Siddipet set to halt at the newly-built Komuravelli railway station. The new stop is expected to improve access to one of Telangana’s busiest pilgrimage centres while benefiting students, daily commuters and traders.Union coal and mines minister G Kishan Reddy on Sunday inaugurated the Komuravelli railway station, built at a cost of Rs 6 crore on the Manoharabad-Kothapalli railway line.Speaking on the occasion, the minister said the station was added to the project despite not being part of the original proposal, keeping in view the large number of devotees visiting the temple.

Designed to reflect the temple’s architecture, the station is expected to boost spiritual tourism and local economic activity. He said passengers would be able to travel from Secunderabad to Komuravelli for just Rs 25 in unreserved coaches.Highlighting railway development in Telangana, Kishan Reddy said projects worth Rs 47,984 crore were under different stages of implementation. He said 340 km of new railway lines and 576 km of doubling, tripling and quadrupling works have been completed, while over 2,000 km of tracks have been electrified.He said major ongoing works include the extension of MMTS Phase II to Yadagirigutta, the Pandurangapuram-Bhadrachalam-Malkangiri new line and the Kazipet-Vijayawada tripling project. He added that the indigenous train protection system Kavach has been deployed across 627 km covering 63 stations in Telangana.Kishan Reddy also said the Centre had approved the final location survey for the proposed 400-km Regional Ring Rail project and reiterated plans for high-speed rail corridors linking Hyderabad with Bengaluru, Chennai and Pune.
