A female student was allegedly gang-raped inside South Calcutta Law College on June 25, sparking outrage across West Bengal. The incident triggered political turmoil, with TMC leaders facing backlash over controversial remarks. After TMC leaders Kalyan Banerjee and Madan Mitra made regressive remarks on the Kolkata case, they faced backlash from across the political spectrum. Post their comments went viral for all the wrong reasons, All India Trinamool Congress ‘unequivocally disassociated itself from their statements’. Taking to ‘X’, AITC condemned the TMC leaders’ comments and reaffirmed its stance of ‘zero tolerance for crimes against women’. Soon after AITC posted its statement on ‘X’, TMC MP Mahua Moitra reposted it while calling out the ‘misogynistic’ comments of two prominent leaders. “Misogyny in India cuts across party lines…” Fierce Mahua, known for her cut-throat opinions, wrote in the post on ‘X’.
