Chandigarh: Amid speculation over a possible change in the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) leadership, embattled state president Amrinder Singh Raja Warring has sought to brush aside the uncertainty, saying he would continue his political fight regardless of who comes or goes.“Koi aave, koi jaave. I have always been fighting and will continue to fight,” Warring said while speaking to mediapersons in Sangrur.The Punjab Congress remains caught in an internal tussle ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections. The friction intensified after the party decided to retain Warring as PPCC president on July 1, with a group of senior leaders backing former chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi seeking changes in the state leadership.The Congress high command has held several rounds of discussions in recent months in an effort to ease tensions within the Punjab unit and resolve differences among its senior leaders. Party assessments have underlined the urgent need to contain infighting, which has affected the party’s preparations in the state.Rahul Gandhi is to visit Punjab after September 15 to participate in a bus yatra. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra held discussions on the Punjab situation earlier this week. According to sources, Channi is likely to meet senior Congress leaders in Delhi next week as the party seeks to address the differences within the state unit.The continuing standoff has also affected the party’s preparations for the Assembly elections, with several organisational initiatives yet to take off even around two months after the announcement of the election-related committees.Channi was appointed chairman of the Campaign Committee, former minister Vijay Inder Singla was named chairman of the Election Management and Coordination Committee, former deputy chief minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa was appointed chairman of the Core Committee, while Dr Amar Singh was made chairman of the Manifesto Committee.Of these, the Manifesto Committee — on the insistence of the high command — has started its work under the chairmanship of Dr Amar Singh and has held a couple of meetings with its members. The committee has also drawn up a plan for preparing the party’s manifesto. The other committees, however, have yet to get going, according to party sources.The delay has raised concerns within the party, with the party leadership keen that the committees begin functioning and election preparations gather momentum. Sources said the high command is also considering expanding the committees by including more members, a move that had been indicated recently by then Punjab in charge Bhupesh Baghel.
