Srinagar, August 15, 2026: Kashmir Medical College and Hospital (KMCH), Sempora, on Saturday celebrated the 80th Independence Day with patriotic fervour and enthusiasm, with faculty, doctors, staff members and students participating in the celebrations.
Managing Director KMCH, Tausif Ahmad, hoisted the Tricolour and took the salute in the presence of Executive Director Insha Qazi, Principal/Dean Prof. Nazir Ahmad Khan, Medical Superintendent Dr Syed Mubashir, heads of departments, faculty members, doctors and staff.
Addressing the gathering, Tausif Ahmad extended warm Independence Day greetings to everyone and paid rich tributes to the freedom fighters and national heroes whose supreme sacrifices, courage and determination paved the way for the country’s independence.
He said the sacrifices of those who fought for the nation must always be remembered, honoured and carried forward through responsible citizenship and dedicated service to society.
“As a medical college and hospital, we have a responsibility towards our country and society. Medical education and healthcare are among the driving forces of any progressive society and nation. Our role goes beyond providing healthcare; we must contribute to building a healthier, educated, responsible and progressive society,” he said.
The Managing Director emphasised that Independence Day should not be limited to celebrations, but should also serve as a reminder of the responsibilities that come with freedom. He said every citizen has a role to play in the progress, development and strengthening of the nation.
He called upon the faculty, doctors, staff and students to uphold the values of dedication, compassion, integrity and service, and contribute meaningfully to society through quality healthcare, medical education and responsible citizenship.
He also paid rich tributes to the national heroes and freedom fighters, recalling their invaluable contribution and immense sacrifices for the country.
In his address, Principal/Dean Prof. Nazir Ahmad Khan recalled the supreme sacrifices of the nation’s heroes with a deep sense of gratitude, acknowledging their unwavering courage, determination and selfless service. He said their sacrifices and commitment to the nation gave the people the precious gift of freedom, which is a privilege that every citizen must cherish, protect and uphold.
Prof. Khan also highlighted the importance of instilling the values of patriotism, discipline, service and social responsibility among students and young professionals, saying that the youth have a vital role in shaping the future of the nation.
The celebrations concluded with the distribution of sweets among the gathering.
