Kolkata: KMC drainage department is wrapping up a major desilting and diversion of twin underground box drains along EM Bypass from Bengal Chemical to Ultadanga.This will check waterlogging issues around Ultadanga, Maniktala, Beleghata and Purbachal, Sukantanagar and areas adjacent to Salt Lake stadium under BMC by next monsoon. Municipal commissioner Smita Pandey inspected the work on Wednesday and expressed her satisfaction.“Over the past few years, the twin box drains experienced heavy siltation, which reduced its’ storm water bearing capacity. Hence, the entire stretch of these twin box drains has been desilted to enable the system to give residents relief from waterlogging,” said a KMC official.
