Kanpur: Two junior engineers were suspended, three clerks transferred and FIRs filed against five contractors after a three-member committee headed by the chief development officer (CDO) found several discrepancies in the registration and renewal of firms with the Kanpur Municipal Corporation (KMC).The committee examined eight files related to the registration of firms and found that qualification certificates and mandatory no-objection certificates (NOCs) were missing from some of them.The panel subsequently submitted a report on the irregularities to senior officials, following which action was taken.According to KMC sources, some of the 509 firms registered with the civic body had been operating without submitting all the required documents.The divisional commissioner had constituted the three-member committee after a complaint was submitted to the chief minister alleging irregularities in the registration of firms and the tender process.The panel sought complete files related to executed works and tender processes during 2024-25 and 2025-26, but KMC officials provided only 20 files.Jain said the first phase of the inquiry, related to the registration of firms, had been completed and the report submitted to senior officials. In the second phase, the committee will examine the reasons behind the acceptance and rejection of tenders. A comprehensive report will subsequently be submitted to the state govt.
