Memorial lecture at KKHSOU commemorates Prof. Krishna Kanta Handiqui’s legacy

GUWAHATI: Krishna Kanta Handiqui State Open University (KKHSOU) organised the 11th Krishna Kanta Handiqui Memorial Lecture at its City Campus in Khanapara, Guwahati. The event was held on July 20, 2025, to commemorate the birth anniversary of Prof. Krishna Kanta Handiqui, renowned scholar, linguist, and Indologist.The programme began with a floral tribute to the statue of Prof. Handiqui within the university premises. This was followed by the University Anthem and the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, marking the formal commencement of the event.Welcome address and opening remarksProf. Prasenjit Das, Director of the Padmanath Gohainbaruah School of Humanities and Chairperson of the Organising Committee, delivered the Welcome Address. In his remarks, he highlighted the continuing relevance of Prof. Handiqui’s intellectual contributions to contemporary higher education.Memorial lecture on cultural heritage and historyThe Memorial Lecture was delivered by Prof. Pradip Jyoti Mahanta, an academician and scholar. His lecture was titled “Krishna Kanta Handiqui, Cultural History and Heritage: A Few Perspectives.” He discussed Prof. Handiqui’s engagement with classical traditions, his contributions to comparative literature and cultural historiography, and the importance of preserving indigenous intellectual heritage.Vice-Chancellor delivers presidential addressProf. Rajendra Prasad Das, Vice-Chancellor of KKHSOU, delivered the Presidential Address. He paid tribute to Prof. Handiqui’s scholarship and reaffirmed the university’s commitment to upholding his legacy through academic development and cultural engagement.Presence of dignitaries and conclusionThe event was attended by Shri Dharmeswar Konwar, MLA of Sonari and Member of the Board of Management, KKHSOU. His presence underscored institutional support for the university’s academic initiatives.The programme concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Prof. Pranjit Bora, Registrar i/c, KKHSOU.
