Nagpur: Railway technician Kirankumar Atram, who allegedly stabbed his colleague-cum-friend, Shivani Gajbhiye, in a decorated hotel room, had brought a knife and three blades in a jewellery box along with a mangalsutra, sari and sindoor to convince the victim he intended to marry her.The accused, Kirankumar Atram, who works at Railway loco shed, Ajni, later inflicted serious injuries on himself in a bid to end his life. Relatives grew suspicious after receiving a call from him and alerted authorities, leading to his rescue. He remains critical in the ICU of Govt Medical College and Hospital.The incident occurred in Manish Nagar area within Beltarodi police station limits. Sources said Shivani was insisting on a long-term and permanent relationship with Atram, a married man who has two children.Sources said Atram had booked room number 302 a day earlier, requesting an attached bathtub. He also arranged decorations, festoons and balloons, apparently to lure Shivani with marriage.Investigators say the accused had planned the crime and intended to project it as a murder-suicide. He planted the knife in Shivani’s hand before losing consciousness, they said.Police records show that Shivani’s family had lodged a complaint against Atram at Ajni police station in 2018. The matter was resolved at the time. However, the issue resurfaced as both continued to work in the same unit.
