Gorakhpur: Police arrested two accused in connection with the murder of BJP member, property dealer Rajkumar Chauhan, in Chiluatal area, late Tuesday night. The arrests were confirmed after a joint briefing by district magistrate Deepak Meena and SSP Dr Kaustubh on Wednesday.According to police, Raj Chauhan alias Nirahua and Vipin Yadav, both dumper drivers, confessed to the crime during interrogation and claimed the killing was an act of revenge after Chauhan’s nephew assaulted one of them two months ago. Chauhan had reportedly supported his nephew, which fueled resentment.Investigators said the accused had been nursing a grudge for nearly four months. On Tuesday morning, they lay in wait near Bargadwa. When Chauhan was out on a walk, one of them fired a shot and both attacked him with knives, inflicting multiple injuries. Chauhan succumbed to the injuries in hospital.Police said CCTV footage from nearby cameras helped identify the suspects, though weapon used in the crime was yet to be recovered. Eight named accused have been booked, and their roles are under investigation.SSP said the victim’s family had demanded fair investigation, security and compensation. “A probe has already been initiated with eight police teams, while security has been provided to the family,” he said.
