Varanasi: Under the guidance of the Railway Women’s Welfare Central Organisation (RWWCO), New Delhi, the All India On-the-Spot Drawing and Painting Competition for children of railway employees were organised by the North Eastern Railway and Banaras Locomotive Works on Sunday.At NER’s event, Divisional Women’s Welfare Organisation, Varanasi, president Vani Jain, inaugurated the contest at Officers’ Club, Lahartara, by lighting the lamp. Secretary Jagriti Singh, treasurer Madhulika Singh, members Sunita Gaur, Mausami Chaudhary and Rashika Singh attended. Avinash Kumar conducted the programme. Winners in each group will receive first, second and third prizes, besides two consolation prizes. All groups will also be honoured at divisional level. No entry fee was charged and participants were given pencil boxes, biscuits, chips and juice.At BLW, the competition was held at Bal Niketan, with about 373 children participating. Topics sent by RWWCO in sealed envelopes were opened at 10.30 am by Sarita Sinha, vice-president. Children competed in three age groups on themes including fruits basket, train, favourite cartoon, school picnic, beautiful garden, marriage scene and train journey with parents, showcasing imagination and confidence. Senior BLW women’s welfare members were present during the event.
