Agartala: Tripura is gearing up for two consecutive kidney transplants set to take place on March 30 and 31 at the Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC).The success is attributed to the unwavering commitment of the govt, leading to greater accessibility of life-saving procedures in the state, health secretary Kiren Gitte said.AGMC is the only govt set up in the northeast where critical organ transportation has been done at free of cost.“Over the last two years, these initiatives have substantially benefitted patients dealing with kidney-related challenges in Tripura. As many as five successful kidney transplants have already been completed at AGMC, with the support of Shija Hospital and Research Institute in Manipur,” he said. The state’s journey with kidney transplants began on July 8, 2024, and the fifth surgery was performed in Nov 2025. Among the patients scheduled for the upcoming surgeries, one is 33-year-old and the other is 36. Specialists from AGMC will work alongside experts from Shija Hospital and Research Institute, Manipur, to carry out the procedures.Currently, both donors and recipients are undergoing comprehensive pre-transplant evaluations at AGMC. As part of this assessment, a meticulous matching process of donor and recipient kidneys will take place to enhance the likelihood of a successful transplant.
