Pune: The Khed police on Wednesday registered a case against two men and three women on the charge of beating their 75-year-old relative to death, following a dispute over property. The incident took place on Tuesday evening at the Bhamburwadi village in Khed taluka, around 55km from Pune city. The elderly victim, Sopan Bhambure, succumbed to his injuries during treatment on Tuesday night. His wife Chandrakala Bhambure (58) suffered minor injuries in the attack. She lodged a complaint against the accused with the Khed police on Wednesday.The police registered a case under sections 103 (murder), 189, 190 and 191 (rioting) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against the five accused. An officer from the Khed police said that when the Bhambure couple reached their farmland on Tuesday evening, their distant relatives refused them entry. According to the complaint, the accused then started thrashing Bhambure. When his wife intervened, the accused allegedly beat her up too. “During the scuffle, Bhambure fell. His relatives kicked him on his chest, said his wife,” the officer added.He said Bhambure and his wife then left the farmland. On their way home, Bhambure fainted. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries in the night. “We registered a case against the accused involved in the attack. Our investigations are on,” he said.
