Ludhiana: Khanna police have arrested six persons and recovered three illegal firearms along with cartridges from their possession. Police said one of the accused is already facing a murder case and claimed he had procured an illegal weapon for protection from the complainant party in that case.In the first case registered at Khanna City-2 police station, police said a black Scorpio was stopped on suspicion during checking on GT Road. Four youths travelling in the vehicle allegedly tried to escape upon spotting the police but were apprehended.During investigation, police found that one of the accused, Zorawar Singh, had recently been released after serving nearly 10 years in jail in a murder case. Police said he allegedly kept illegal weapons due to fear of his rival group. The other accused arrested in this case were identified as Jobanjeet Singh, Akashdeep Singh and Harpreet Singh.In a separate case, Machhiwara police arrested a youth identified as Rahul Sharma during checking and recovered a .32 bore pistol along with a magazine from his possession. During interrogation, Rahul disclosed that he had befriended Gurpreet Singh alias Gumma while lodged in jail and had kept the weapon at his instance. Police later produced Gurpreet Singh on production warrant and arrested him.Police said investigation revealed that the accused have multiple previous cases registered against them under serious charges, including murder, robbery, the Arms Act and the NDPS Act.During recovery, police seized one country-made .32 bore pistol along with five live cartridges and another .30 bore pistol with 13 live cartridges.
