Lucknow: King George’s Medical University (KGMU) has started a diagnostic facility for detecting complex lung diseases using C-arm guided radial endobronchial ultrasound. The facility is expected to benefit around 400–500 patients every month.Earlier, doctors used conventional bronchoscopy and CT-guided biopsy, which had limitations in accessing small or deep lung lesions.Dr Darshan Bajaj, a faculty member in the department of respiratory medicine, said that KGMU is the first govt institute in the state to offer the procedure. “The technique helps identify small and deep-seated lung nodules and suspicious lesions and allows precise biopsy for diagnosis,” he added.He said the procedure involves imaging support that uses controlled radiation, and safety protocols are being followed. He added that additional protective measures, including thyroid shields and specialised headgear, are being planned.
