Bhubaneswar: A day after car driver Satyabrata Pradhan was allegedly murdered over a triangular love affair in the city, prime suspect Dinesh alias Dinabandhu Nayak surrendered before the police in Jagatsinghpur district on Tuesday.“We are interrogating him,” DCP Jagmohan Meena said. Police sources revealed Nayak was previously booked in two criminal cases. “We have come to know about his criminal history. The nature of cases against him is being verified,” the DCP added.Police believe Pradhan, who hailed from Puri’s Brahmagiri district, was killed at the residence of a woman in Sailashree Vihar during a confrontation with Nayak over an alleged triangular love affair. The woman, who is being interrogated, has pleaded innocence. She told police that Nayak attacked Pradhan with a knife following a heated argument, slashing his throat despite her attempts at intervention. The woman also claimed she had called an ambulance and alerted neighbours after the incident. On Tuesday, CCTV footage surfaced showing Pradhan running while clutching his neck, with Nayak and the woman following him.“We are verifying the CCTV footage and circumstances to determine the criminal culpability of both the woman and Nayak,” said ACP (Zone-VI) Sonali Singh Parmar.According to police sources, the woman’s rented house had been arranged by Nayak, who had introduced himself to the landlord as her husband. Nayak was reportedly employed with a real estate company. Though she lived alone, Nayak — who resided nearby — frequently visited her.Police sources indicated that Nayak apparently suspected her of being involved in another relationship. To confirm his doubts, he told her he would be away from Bhubaneswar for a week, while secretly monitoring her movements. On Sunday night, he allegedly spotted Pradhan arriving at her home in a car. Seizing the moment, Nayak confronted the pair, leading to panic and a violent altercation that ended in Pradhan’s death.
