Thiruvananthapuram: After widespread mistakes were flagged in the FYUGP semester 4 and semester 1 supplementary exam results announced recently, Kerala University withdrew the same on Saturday.The university syndicate has also decided to withdraw the K-REAP software and use the university computer centre’s software, which the university had been using in the past to publish results. K-REAP was introduced during the previous LDF govt’s tenure.Several grave lapses were found in results issued via K-REAP, like results not showing up through student profiles, results appearing for non-existent subjects, changes in improvement-exam marks, and marking failed subjects as passed. There is major concern among the university, teachers and students over whether registrations and conduct of the upcoming Oct–Nov FYUGP semester 1, 3 and 5 exams can be completed smoothly through K-REAP. Moreover, the software lacks facilities for credit transfer for students moving into the fourth year, awarding credits for online/additional courses, and completing studies a semester early, Syndicate observed.Kerala University has no direct MoU with the Maharashtra-based company that developed K-REAP software as the software was jointly implemented by the higher education council and ASAP. Since the exam data is not handed over to the university, exam security and students’ information are at serious risk, syndicate members argued.As the university’s computer centre has no control over K-REAP, it cannot directly intervene and make corrections. While MG University and Calicut University run exams using their own software, Kerala University implemented K-REAP under LDF govt pressure, dumping the successful in-house system.
