Thiruvananthapuram: University of Kerala has directed the principal of Kayamkulam MSM College to initiate steps to cancel the admission of a person who was allegedly enrolled as an MCom student while working as a full-time physical education teacher at a private school. The person, Al Ameen, had been fielded as an SFI candidate for the post of college union chairperson.The decision was taken at a meeting of the admission monitoring committee chaired by Kerala University vice-chancellor Mohanan Kunnummal, following a complaint. The committee directed the college principal to take steps to cancel the admission of Ameen.According to the complaint, Ameen is employed as a full-time physical education teacher at SN International Model School in Kayamkulam. He allegedly concealed his employment while securing admission to the college and continued working at the school after joining the course. The complaint also questioned how a full-time teacher could have met the mandatory attendance requirement for contesting the election. Under the Lyngdoh committee recommendations, candidates contesting student union elections are required to have at least 75% attendance.The college principal reportedly forwarded a letter confirming his employment to the university. Following this, the vice-chancellor directed that action be taken to cancel his admission.Cancellation of Ameen’s admission would prevent him from contesting the student union election scheduled for Sept 18.The complaint follows an earlier controversy over an SFI activist’s alleged submission of a fake BCom certificate purportedly issued by Kalinga University, Raipur, to secure admission to the MCom course at the same college last year.
